And now, another chapter is to be added to the annuals of historic recording studios: the Best Western in Gainesville, Fla.
That's where '90's melodic alt-rockers Sister Hazel recorded part of their seventh album, "Release."
"It was just really convenient," drummer Mark Trojanowski says of recording in a hotel.
The band members' homes are spread from Atlanta to Florida, where the band originated.
And anyway, Trojanowski says, they recorded in a Best Western suite. "It wasn't just like a hotel room," he says.
That Best Western must have some music mojo going for it. "Release" entered the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart in August at No. 37, the highest ranking for any Sister Hazel record. Not bad considering the band's biggest single, "All for You," hit airways in 1997.
"It was really awesome," Trojanowski says of the recent achievement, adding that this is just the beginning of success for "Release."
"Our big focus is later down the road," he says. "It's just getting started. It's all about the long burn."
Each band member penned at least two songs on "Release," and each songwriter got to guide the song through the recording process.
